So many new releases...

Since starting this blog and particularly in the past week or so, there seem to have been new versions of several of my chosen products...

Firefox 1.5
OpenOffice 2.01
Skype 2.0

and today

Thunderbird 1.5

I guess I'm going to be busy in the coming days...

FIL makes his first Skype call

My wife was surprised today to hear her father calling her on Skype.

Until now it's been the other way around (and even then he doesn't always here the PC ringing and riging and ringing...)

Lets hope the phone bill starts to reduce now

New Year and everything seems to be working

Since migrating to Opensource/free software and setting up the groundbreaking FIL's PC (for him at least), everything seems to be running smoothly.

We received e-mails, initiated Skype calls. Fingers crossed, no serious problems reported either at home or away.

Remote Assistance problems

Hmmm, tried out remote assistance now I'm back home. Well it works, but only if ZoneAlarm is turned off at both ends.

Not sure that is something I can live with.

The wierdest thing is the remote computer seems to be logging the IP address as my private one not the public one - very wierd!
